Two Barangay kagawads and a municipal employee fell into the arms of law when they were arrested during an anti-gambling operation in San Jorge, Samar.

Caught in the act while gambling were Isidro Sabas, 50 years old;  Bibiana Balisbis, 56, and Gino Vargas, also 56.  Sabas and Balisbis are both members of the council of Brgy. San Juan, while Vargas is said to be an employee of the local government unit.

The suspects were immediately brought to San Jorge Municipal Police Office for proper documentation and filing of appropriate charges.

It can be recalled that weeks ago, PNP Chief Lt. General Archie Gamboa declared a renewed effort to curb illegal gambling in the country.  It was noticed that the vice rose after the closure of the small town lottery operations (STL).

In Eastern Visayas, PNP Director B/Gen. Ferdinand Divina is close monitoring the anti-illegal drive of his provincial, city and police chiefs and has implemented a one-strike policy, wherein all unit heads will be relieved from their posts immediately if they fail to act at once on complaints of illegal gambling.

The PNP-Regional Office has opened hotlines numbers 0927-360-3545 and 0929-235-0558 for the public to report any activity of this kind in their localities. #
