BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar, (PIA) – President Benigno “Simeon” Aquino III is set to visit Arteche, Eastern Samar, today to convey his personal greetings to the people there, on the occasion of their 50th Foundation Day.
His arrival is rather a few days advance but is just in time for the series of activities leading towards the D-day on November 9.
Some 50 years ago, the Eastern Samar people, voted in a Plebiscite in support to R.A. 4221, that divided the largest island of the country into three provinces: Northern, Western and Eastern Samar.
Part of the President’s visit is the aerial inspection of the road projects in the province, which were funded by the national government. The farm-to-market roads were either constructed or rehabilitated.
Specifically, the province has been a recipient of PAMANA Road projects as a framework for peace and development, implemented in areas affected by conflict and communities covered by existing peace agreements.
Col. Perfecto M. Rimando, Brigade Commander of 801st Brigade, 8th Infantry Division said that PAMANA road projects get communities closer to progress since farm products from the interior barangays are now easily transported to the market.
In Arteche the President will also turn-over some health kits to the province’s barangay health workers (BHWs) and he will listen to some testimonies of some project beneficiaries.
Pres. Aquino will be joined in his visit by DOH Secretary Janet Garin, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson and DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento.(PIA-8)
