Tacloban City, July 3 (PIA) – – As the month of July signals Nutrition Month, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VIII together with other health and nutrition stakeholders has launched its 44th celebration with the theme, “Ugaliing magtanim, sapat na nutrisyon aanihin.”
It is this year’s campaign of the Nutrition Council to engage in “Food Gardening” as a sustainable solution to combat malnutrition.
According to Dr. Catalino Dotollo, NNC regional program coordinator, the concept of food gardening will not only help achieve food security and improve the nutritional status of the people, but will likewise become an avenue to generate
income especially for the less privileged ones.
Held July 3 at La Granja de Reyna, Bagacay, this city, the event has also its objective of providing platforms to generate success stories on food gardening, hence, featuring the story of a successful food gardener and proprietress of LA Granja de Reyna farm, Engr. Martina Reyna.
Reyna strongly believes that every Filipino deserves the right food for a healthy life. According to her,“let us consider the right food as the medicines of our body, not the medicines as our food.”
The big time gardener also designed a movable stall called “Farmacy” where she sells organic, clean and nutritious farm products. (AJC/GTT/PIA8-Leyte)
