TACLOBAN CITY – The University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas Tacloban Campus An Balangaw (the Rainbow) performing arts group has launched a healing musical show to celebrate the National Literature Month amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Dubbed “Pasundayag Paghilum ha Panahon han Covid-19” (musical show for healing during Covid-19), the initiative uploads videos on social media of the group’s art performance in Waray, the region’s main local dialect.

UP An Balangaw is one of the oldest and award-winning performing arts groups in Eastern Visayas. The songs and poetry are performed by the group members, alumni, and some guest artists and will be posted every week at their Facebook account for the month of April.

“This video series of songs and poetry on Facebook dedicated primarily to the health front-liners in the Philippines and in the world,” the UP An Balangaw said in a statement on Wednesday.

“At this time of Covid-19 we hope that this repertoire of songs and poems could help heal the sick, those grieving, anxious, confused, angry, lost, and the lonely as well as lift our spirit in time of threatening life,” it added.

The show, which has been uploading videos on Facebook since April 10, is also a way to reach out to the youth to let them see their own creative gifts to triumph over challenges and difficulties.

The performing group also hopes that people who will watch the uploaded videos on social media will enjoy the beauty of Waray songs and poetry “to celebrate the lives of friends and family we lost and those who fought to save the lives of others.”

April is designated a month to celebrate National Literatures Month in accordance with Proclamation No. 968 signed in 2015. (PNA)
