Tacloban City – Eighteen months have passed after their homes were destroyed by super typhoon “Yolanda”, most of the victims is still living in bunkhouses.
The National Housing Authority committed 14,000 permanent shelters for the Yolanda victims of the city of Tacloban but so far only 17 housing units was officially turned over to the beneficiaries as per information given by Tacloban City Vice Mayor Jerry “Sambo” Yaokasin in an interview with isumat.com.
So, what happened to the rest?
Aside from the administrative bureaucratic red tape as one of the causes for the delay, there’s still a need to further evaluate the structures as some of the materials that were used in the construction are not in accordance with the principle of “Build Back Better” Yaokasin said.
NHA hired private contractors to construct the housing units at a cost of 290,000 per unit.
