MAASIN CITY-Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, said that it’s “too early” to make any declarations on his possible 2016 presidential run.

Marcos said that he rather focus on his work as a senator rather than be “distracted” from issues related to the 2016 elections.

“No, not talking anything about it. It’s too early.Kung magde-decide ka ngayon, ang situation sa 2016 ay iba na. Malamang malaki…na maaring mangyari, mali ang naging desisyon mo,” Marcos said, when asked on his reported presidential run.

Marcos was in Maasin last Friday to attend the first Southern Leyte Tourism summit held at the city convention center and at the same time conduct meeting with youth leaders of the Southern Leyte regarding the forthcoming Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The senator is the Senate chairman on the committee on local government.

Asked if his decision not to make any public announcement what could be his plans in 2016 is to avoid being attacked or be center of a mudslinging, the namesake of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos said that as a politician, he was aware of the dirty side of politics.

He said that when Vice President Jejomar Binay announced his intention to be the possible successor of President Aquino, he was fully aware of the possible consequences.

“As a candidate, expect na may babatikos sa ‘yo; may aatake sa ‘yo. I guess, kahit naman siya, alam na ang mangyayari,” Marcos said.

Binay had announced early on his desire to seek the presidency. He is now the subject of a Senate inquiry regarding the controversy on the P2.3 billion Makati City parking building built when he was the mayor of the country’s premier business center.

Binay claims that the ongoing Senate inquiry is politically motivated.

Marcos said that his purported run for presidency is actually nothing new to him saying that his mother, former first lady and now Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos has been telling it to him “since I was three years old.”

“Of course, she is my mother. She’s been telling that since I was three years old. I naman nakakagulat kasi mother ko siya,” the senator said.

Meantime, the senator said that the family’s desire to see the former dictator be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani remains.

According to the young Marcos, his father rightfully deserve to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on two reasons, being a soldier who fought for the country’s liberation during the World War II and the longest sitting president of the country.

Several sectors, including Mr. Aquino and victims of human rights victims, opposes for Marcos be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
