TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways – Leyte Fiest Engineering District (DPWH-1st LED) headed by Engr. Angel Sia currently intensifies implementation of various projects in its area of coverage.

It was learned that roads along Bagahupi-Babatngon-Sta. Cruz-Barugo-Carigara, road slip protection is being undertaken. This is funded under the Rehabilitation/Reconstruction of Critical Sections along National Roads such as Slips/Emergencies/Protection Works-Arterial Roads for CY 2014.

The said road project is under contract with Villa Veronica Construction with a cost of P5,376,000.00 and is now 91 percent accomplished.

The concreting of shoulders along the Tanauan-Dagami road is 86 percent accomplished and is funded under the Network Development-Off-Carriageway Improvement for CY 2014. The project, which has a contract cost of P5,946,822.00, is being undertaken by contractor WAWOT Bewilders.

On the other hand, the widening of the government center road, which is now 90 percent accomplished, funded under the Network Development-Widening of National Roads-Secondary for CY 2014.

The project is expected to uplift the economic conditions of the people and this will be accessible to the district’s tourist destination which is the MacArthur Leyte Landing Memorial Park in Brgy. Baras, Palo, Leyte. The project, which has a contract cost of P14,142,399.12, is under the contractor 3FS Construction.

Funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2014, in the amount of P9,822,700.00, is the completed concreting of the Kiling-Tanauan-Tabontabon-Julita road under the CNE Construction.

Other road projects the engineering district is currently undertaking include the road upgrading along the Bagahupi-Babatngon-Sta. Cruz-Barugo-Carigara intermittent section, San Miguel, Leyte; road concreting along Brgy. Guindag-an, Tanauan, Leyte; and the construction of lined canal and application of bio-engineering systems to prevent soil erosion along the Tigbao-Pulak-sta. Fe Road, Sta. Fe, Leyte. (jrc/maa/PIA-8)
