TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 8 (PNA) -– Senator Grace Poe visited on Thursday an orphanage in this city as she renewed her call to give everyone an equal opportunity to lead the country.
Poe is always vocal about her care and concern for orphans especially since she used to be one of them, but was fortunate to have actors Fernando Poe Jr. and Susan Roces as adoptive parents.
The senator, being a foundling, has been the subject of disqualification cases in her bid for presidency.
Poe asked the orphans of SOS Children’s Village who among them wants to be a future President of the country.
“More than half of them raised their hands. My wish is that no one should be deprived of dreaming to become the highest official of the land regardless of their status,” she said.
Poe and her running mate, Senator Francis Escudero was in Tacloban as part of their nationwide Galing at Puso tour.
They also visited Leyte Normal University for a student’s forum.
Poe emphasized that she is still a candidate for president and a temporary restraining order was issued regarding her disqualification by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Habang may buhay, may pag-asa (as long as there is life, there is hope),” said Poe when asked if she is confident that the High Court will soon decide over citizenship and residency issues.
She also expressed her gratitude to other lawyers, even government lawyers and the Office of the Solicitor General for saying they will defend before the Supreme Court the decision of Comelec. (PNA)
