TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 3 (PNA) — Some sections of national roads in Eastern Visayas remained closed to traffic after it was damaged this week by landslides and severe flooding brought by storm “Seniang,” the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) reported.
Daguitan bridge connecting the towns of Dulag and Mayorga in Leyte is not passable after strong river current destroyed its approach or the road leading to the bridge.
The bridge, that is part of a major highway used by motorists from Luzon to Mindanao, have been partly damaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) and typhoon Ruby. Motorists are advised to take the alternate Mayorga-La Paz-Burauen-Dagami-Tanauan road.
The town of Dagami in Leyte is not accessible from nearby Jaro town when the Mainit Bridge approach collapsed due to severe flooding. A spillway nearby is also not passable after raging river waters destroyed the structure.

Another bridge in Hiagsam village, Jaro, Leyte is only passable to motorcycle due to serious damages of bridge piers caused by floods. The structure is within the main highway that links the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc.

“Some road sections are not yet passable or partly passable due to ongoing clearing operations such as in Catbalogan City in Samar and Lawaan in Eastern Samar,” said OCD assistant regional director Rey Gozon.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will immediately come up with estimated cost of damage after the assessment.
