TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, March 13 (PIA) –The Police Regional Command 8 has reactivated its “Oplan Bantay Lakbay” to ensure the safety of the public as the school year is about to close and in the observance of the coming Lenten season.
In a statement, Police Acting Regional Director Asher A. Dolina said, this is a regionwide security plan to secure air, sea, land terminals, churches, houses, tourist spots, vital installations and facilities and other places of convergence that are vulnerable to criminal and terrorist threats.
The PNP official said that whether there is a threat or not, they are not taking any chances. Police personnel are prepared and committed to provide security and safety to the public especially during summer where festivities and fiestas are expected to generate an exodus of commuters and tourists both local and foreign, he said.
“These occasions may cause peace and order concerns including traffic congestions, accidents and crime incidents,” Dolina said.
Relative to this, Police Superintendent Carlo Manog Centinaje of the Regional Police Community Relations said that police authorities in the region has implemented the “Oplan Summer Vacation” (SUMVAC) until the opening of classes in June to further strengthen the safety campaign.
Even with this assurance from the authorities, the public is reminded to always exercise extra precaution against lawless elements and remember the practical tips from the police especially if one is traveling. (cba/PNP-8/PIA-8)
