TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, April 6 (PIA) – The Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) under the National Community-Driven Development Program (NCDDP) funds of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be implemented in 2,176 sub-projects in Eastern Visayas this year.

In a statement, DSWD-8 Regional Director Nestor Ramos said, a total of P2.3 billion budget will be disbursed in the first year of operation of NCDDP in six provinces in the region.

“Almost all NCDDP projects will focus on rehabilitation especially in the municipalities badly hit by Yolanda in 2013,” Ramos said.

“Kalahi-CIDDS is not just about building infrastructure but also rebuilding the communities to become more resilient and empowered citizens,” Ramos added.

Some approved sub-projects for this year include improvement of school buildings, rehabilitation of bridges,roads and construction of barangay evacuation centers.

The National Community-Driven Development Program is an expansion of the Community-Driven Development approach which proved to be effective since Kalahi-CIDDS project was implemented 12 years ago.

In Eastern Visayas, 617,131 households across 136 municipalities will benefit the program where 239,328 families are Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries. (cba/DSWD8/PIA8)
