CALBAYOG CITY, Samar, 1 August (PIA) — Motorists are advised to be cautious when cruising in the landslide area at the Calbayog – Allen Road Section in Barangay Caglanipao Sur, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City.

The area was cleared three days after the landslide. But clearing operations is still ongoing.

It took a few days to clear the area where commuters and motorists would choose to trek with caution or take the Catarman-Lope de Vega-Calbayog Road as an alternate route.

After a few days of clearing the 15 thousand cubic meters of dirt, one lane become passable and rotation of the one-hour allotted time for travelers to pass through.

On July 27, two lanes were eventually cleared and traffic was allowed bringing relief to the hundreds of travelers and locals that traverse the route every day.

But safety first is still the top priority of DPWH Samar First District Office, that is why there are still warning signs in the vicinity. Moreover, DPWH workforces also guide road users in the area.

Based from the situation report of DPWH Samar First District Engineering Office, landslide damage amounts to some Php 10 million.

Fieldworkers also promised to restore the road to its former state within 12 days. A catchwall is already in the works and will be implemented by the DPWH Regional Office to make sure this incident will not happen again in the future.
