TABON-TABON, Leyte, Feb. 12 (PNA)– The town mayor here is willing to face investigation over reports that rotten monggo (mung beans) seeds intended for inter-cropping were thrown away.

Mayor Brendo Gamez confirmed that sacks of monggo seeds were dumped by their municipal agriculture officer at the back of the church last month.

However, he clarified the seeds were rotten after the storage room was flooded during typhoon Seniang.

“I am not certain on the number of sacks dumped, but it’s neither 50 sacks nor 15 because we’re able to distribute most of the monggo seeds to farmers before typhoon Seniang struck,” said Gamez.

Gamez added that it was the municipal agriculturist who has the discretion of disposing of the spoiled monggo seeds kept in the municipal agriculturist office since it already smells bad.

He added that he supports the investigation of the Philippine Coconut Authority on the report. (PNA)
