TACLOBAN CITY- Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said that their party Lakas-CMD is not afraid of the possibility of facing Senator Grace Poe as the administration candidate for the presidency in next year’s presidential elections.
Romualdez, who is the president of Lakas, said that they will field their own candidate or coalesce with other party.
But he admitted that considering that their leaders, former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Senator Bong Revilla are both imprisoned, the party could not decide yet on this matter.
But we will support one. We in the minority will support the candidate that spouses and champions the welfare of the people.Sa ngayon, the only one championing the causes of the opposition is Vice President Binay, “Romualdez said.
He, however, decline to say if the party will indeed coalesce and eventually support the beleaguered Vice President who is fighting corruption charges. But Romualdez insisted that they are not afraid of the popular Poe.
“Anybody could run. This is democracy. Whether it’s Grace or Binay or Mar, “Romualdez said.
Aside from Poe and Vice President Binay, also considered as a presidential wannabe is Interior Sec. Mar Roxas.
The opposition leader said that they are working it out for the temporary release of Arroyo and Revilla who expressed his interest to run for President.
“Ganun talaga ang ginagawa ng administration. Pinapahirapan ang opposition. Kaya titingnan natin kung mapapalaya natin sila, “Romualdez said.
Romualdez, touted to be eyeing a senate seat, meanwhile, decline to confirm it saying it is still early for him to decide. He however, admitted to be going around to various parts of the country.
“But I’m doing these visits to personally thank them for the assistance they extended to us here in Tacloban and Leyte due to Yolanda, “Romualdez said.
