CALBAYOG CITY, Samar, April 5 (PNA) – The worst road along the country’s national highway is located in er of the House of Representatives’ transportation committee said.

Citing initial findings of their recent 10-day Western and Eastern Nautical Highway Expedition, Samar 1st District Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento, vice chairperson of the transportation committee, said Wednesday the road in San Isidro town is in a “dire shape.”

The road section is part of the Eastern Nautical Highway, an integrated set of roads and ports that connect Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions.

San Isidro is a coastal town and Northern Samar’s border town with the province of Samar to the south. It is approximately 54 kilometers north-west of Calbayog City.

Because of its ferry terminal, located in Salvacion village, it is also a gateway to Luzon just like the nearby Allen town.

Reached for comment, Edgar Tabacon, Department of Public Works and Highways regional director, said in a mobile phone interview that the 11-kilometer road section in San Isidro town has been included in the 2017 asset preservation budget.

The PHP180 million road rehabilitation project is up for bidding this month, he said.

“Any query by the House transportation committee is very welcome to us,” Tabacon said. (PNA) JAZMIN BONIFACIO
