Alang-alang, Leyte – Residents of Brgy. Holy Child, this municipality expressed their gratitude to Fo Guang Shan Foundation Inc. for bringing their provision of additional assistance to the recovery and reconstruction activities in their barangay.

A representative from Fo Guang Shan personally delivered a cash of P200, 000 for the reconstruction of the day care center of Brgy. Holy Child severely damaged by super typhoon “Yolanda”. A wheel chair was also given to a pupil who is a polio victim.

Fo Guang Shan Foundation Inc. also turned-over a school building, built by the foundation, to Mariano Salazar Elementary School, also in this municipality.

According to Sarah T. Apurillo, who received the cash donation in behalf of the barangay, they are very thankful to Fo Guang Shan Shan Foundation because of the immediate help they have given to the victims of “Yolanda”.

Apurillo added that this is the fifth time that Fo Guang Shan Foundation came to the barangays wherein they donated kitchen wares, food packs, clothings and even cash assistance.

Fo Guang Shan, literally mean “Buddha’s Light Mountain”, is an international Chinese Mahayana Buddhist monastic order based in the Republic of China (Taiwan), and one of the largest Buddhist organizations. The headquarters of Fo Guang Shan, located in Kaohsiung, is the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. The organization itself is also one of the largest charity organizations in Taiwan. The order also calls itself the International Buddhist Progress Society.

Founded in 1967 by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the order promotes Humanistic Buddhism, a modern Chinese Buddhist thought developed through the 20th Century and made popular by this and other modern Chinese Buddhist orders. Humanistic Buddhism aims to make Buddhism relevant in the world and in people’s lives and hearts.
