TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA– The number of displaced families due to the onslaught of typhoon Ruby in Eastern Visayas has decreased.

The latest report released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office 8 disclosed that families staying in evacuation centers are decreasing as more centers are closing.

As of 2 o’clock in the afternoon of December 10, 2014, from 164, 683 families inside evacuation centers, it decreased to 99, 195 families composed of 489, 516 persons.

As to number of damaged houses, a total of 27, 179 houses were totally damaged while 97, 586 were partially damaged in the whole region. Most of these were reported in Eastern Samar where the typhoon made a landfall.

The number of families affected were totaled at 253, 837 composed of 1, 157, 243 persons, as reported yesterday.

Meanwhile, DSWD 8 likewise reported that a total of 16, 668 sacks of 50 kg. of rice, 28, 565 packs of complete family food packs, 232 boxes of canned goods, 47 boxes of coffee and 30 sacks of bottled water on top of its prepositioned goods as part of the augmentation support for relief distribution in 6 provinces in Region VIII.

To date, DSWD-8 recorded five fatalities, 92 were injured and two are still missing.(ajc/cba/PIA-8)
