dswd1CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Feb. 12 (PIA) – The social pension for senior citizens is now lowered to 65 years old in age. This was according to Asuncion Gabiana, municipal social welfare officer of Motiong, Samar who informed the more tha 500 attendees during the Peace and Development forum held at the Motiong covered court Tuesday.

However, she reminded them that to be eligible, one must not be a GSIS or SSS pensioner and must be indigent.

Lola Gerundia from Bayog who was seated in front was happy with the pronouncement, she lives alone with a school age granddaughter and her ‘cassava’ farm is short of their daily needs.

The 70-year old grandma is happy that finally she will be receiving Php500 a month as pension from DSWD.

“Dire na ako mahulat pag 77 anyos ko.” (I will not have to wait until I am 77). Presently, DSWD is giving social pension to indigent senior citizens who are aged 77 and above. (ajc/nbq/PIA8-Samar)
