Tacloban City – The City Government of Tacloban suspends classes from all levels ensuring the safety of the student after 5.4 aftershock jolts at around 9:41am.
Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez immediately issued Executive Order No. 2017-07-062 suspending classes at elementary and high school at all levels on July 10, 2017.
The suspension of classes at all levels by Mayor Cristina assures parents and students that their children will be safer should another aftershock occur.
In an interview, Mayor Cristina said the safety of Tacloban children comes in first, I salute those principal who made the quick decision of sending the children home with their parents.
Earlier Tacloban elementary school children & high School students in various school in the City felt another earthquake tremors as they ran for safety.
Mothers waiting in canteens and school lounges ran to pull out respective children for safety. St. Therese Christian Development Center School Principal Annie Corpin automatically suspend the classes and asked the mothers to bring home their children for fear another after shock will follow.
Other private schools who didn’t suspend classes allowed mothers to pull out their children.
Children of Rizal Elementary School, Sto. Nino SPED Center and other public schools were seen outside the buildings and school grounds waiting for further instructions from higher ups.
Dep-ed Leyte Superitendent Ronelo Al K Firmo confirmed that some classes in Leyte were also suspended
Earlier the Office of Civil Defense, Regional Office 8 issued PHILVOCS Earthquake Information No. 1: July 10, 2017 at around 9:41:47am. , with location: 11.00N, 124.69E – 009 km S 87 E of Ormoc City (Leyte) with Depth of Focus 001 km., Tectonic in origin with Magnitude 5.4.
Intensity V were felt in Ormoc City; Intensity IV in Mayorga, Leyte & TACLOBAN CITY, Mandaue City. Intensity II – Lapu-lapu City.
Instrumental Intensities: Intensity III-Cebu City; Intensity II-Palo, Leyte and Lapu-lapu City.
According to PHIVOCS, this is an aftershock of the M6.5 Leyte Earthquake where they are expecting damage and expecting further Aftershocks.
Tacloban City was also affected when the July 6, 2017 (6.5 magnitude) shook the entire island of Leyte affecting electrical power blackout in the entire Eastern Visayas region.
The City is still in total power blackout since the July 6, 2017 (6.5magnitude) tectonic in origin earthquake. /isumat.com
