TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, (PIA) — Eastern Visayas continues to be free from toxic red tides based on latest laboratory reports of the Bureau of Fisheries and Acquatic Resources (BFAR).
Based on April 11 local shellfish bulletin no.09 of the BFAR Regional Integrated Fisheries Laboratory, the coastal waters of Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City; San Pedro Bay; Carigara Bay; Ormoc Bay in Leyte; Sogod Bay in Southern Leyte; Villareal Bay in Villareal Samar; Maqueda Bay in Jiabong Samar; Irong-irong Bay in Catbalogan City; Cambatutay Bay in Tarangnan Samar and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar remain free of the red tide toxin.
BFAR-8 regional director Juan D. Albaladejo said shellfishes collected from said coastal areas are negative for paralytic shellfish poison.
Hence, shellfish and other marine products collected from said waters are safe for human consumption.
The clarification from BFAR Regional Office 8 was released after it was reported that shellfishes collected at the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
Meanwhile, the Balite Bay in Mati, Davao Oriental is now positive for red tide toxin. (ajc/cba/PIA-8)
