received_1472543566159208Tacloban City – Despite the many challenges Tacloban underwent in the past years, Highly Urbanized City (HUC) Tacloban got the 1st Place HUC Class- MOST IMPROVED LGU Award in terms of tax collection during the 5th Regional Competitiveness Summit held August 16, 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) CCP Complex, Pasay City.

Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez happily received the Plague of Recognition from the National Competitive Council Private Sector Co-Chair Guillermo Luz & DTI USEC Ruth Castelo.

Proud of Tacloban’s achievement, Mayor Cristina thanked and applauded the working force behind the Local Government Unit performance for doing well.

The two pillars of index exemplary performance ON MOST COMPETITIVE, among the 33 HUCs in the country, Tacloban got the 16th place on Infrastructure and 12th place on Resiliency despite the challenges the City encountered during the November 8, 2013 super typhoon Yolanda.

For an HUC who has risen from the ruins of Haiyan to get 16th and 12th place, aside from the 1st place HUC Class – Most Improved LGU on Tax collection, Mayor Cristina congratulated everybody for doing their task well”.

While HUC Tacloban is the 16th placer on infrastructure, Davao City got 3rd, Manila 2nd and Quezon City 1st.

On the other hand, MOST COMPETITIVE on RESILIENCY, HUC Tacloban placed 12th, Manila got 3rd place, Quezon City 2nd and Davao City 1st place.

Meanwhile, Ormoc City as MOST COMPETITIVE component city in the country got 12th place on Resiliency also.

Promoting public-private sector partnership towards global competitiveness, the National Competitive Council – Philippines recognizes Local Government Units (LGU) with exemplary performance in the four pillars of the index on Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure and Resiliency.

The Council likewise awards LGUs in 4 categories: 3rd to 6th class municipalities; 1st to 2nd class municipalities; component cities and Highly Urbanized Cities. And an additional award for the most competitive province and MOST IMPROVED CITY & Municipality.

Around 1,500 Local Government Units in the country participated in the 5th Annual Regional Competitiveness Summit and Awarding Ceremony.

Tacloban being the 33rd city to join the Highly Urbanized Cities in the country by virtue of a plebiscite year 2008 has been competitive with other old performing HUCs like Davao, Pasay, Quezon City & Makati.
