TACLOBAN CITY – At least three were reported dead in a separate encounter between the government forces and the rebels at Leyte and Samar.

In Northern Samar, around 30 suspected members New People’s Army (NPA) attacked a group of soldiers who is conducting a military patrol in a remote town of Silvino Lobos at around 10 in the evening, May 11.

In an interview, Lt. Cherry Junia, Spokesperson of Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division, said gunfight between soldiers belonging to the 43rd infantry battalion and rebel forces lasted for about 10 minutes.

This resulted to the death of Private First Class Jaime Mabini Jr and one unidentified NPA member.

Meanwhile at Hilongos, Leyte, on may 10 at around 6:30 in the morning an encounter was also transpired when 50 members of the 78th IB were attacked by approximately 30 rebel groups at Baranggay of San Antonio.

This resulted to a 30 minute gunfight.

NPA Member alyas “Arthur” were reported fatality while Nilo Alegria was injured.

No casualties reported on the side of the government.

The Military troops have recovered two AK-47 rifles, 6 Magazines and 158 Live ammunitions.

Brigadier General Francisco Mendoza, Commander of 802nd Brigade is continuously conducting manhunt operation against NBA rebels who escaped after the incident.

The 8th Infantry Division assures to the people of Eastern Visayas that the NPA terrorist group will not succeed on disturbing peace and order in the region. isumat.com
