Tacloban City – Here is the official statement of Leyte Vice Governor Carlo P. Loreto as posted in his facebook account on the allegation that he is one of the protector of the illegal drug trade as mentioned in the affidavit of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.
“The allegation that I am a protector of the Espinosas is preposterous. I vehemently deny having anything to do with them.
When I learned that I was alleged as protector of the Espinosas, I sought help from Eastern Visayas regional police director Chief Supt. Elmer Beltejar, and asked them to investigate how I became connected with the Espinosas.
Being innocent and having no clue, my instinctive response was to immediately inquire about this matter and requested full investigation.
I signified full cooperation and we were asking about the circumstances, only to be told that I was not in the bluebook.
So I really welcome this full investigation initiated by no less than Senator Ping Lacson and that whoever manipulated to craft that affidavit, including me, should be investigated further to its conclusion. We don’t want to taint the President’s campaign against drugs. I personally laud it but I also don’t want others to taint it because drugs have ruined the future of many leyteños. Even more leyteño lives will be destroyed if the drug menace remains unabated.
How we wish Mayor Espinosa would have been present so the veracity of his affidavit may be tested. We remain respectful to the late Mayor Espinosa despite belonging to opposing political parties. Condolences to his family.”
