MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, (PIA) – The City Government of Maasin received Thursday the highest distinction in nutrition – the National Nutrition Honor Award – from the Department of Health through the National Nutrition Council in an awarding ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City..
The National Nutrition Council conferred the Nutrition Honor Award to Maasin City since it showed outstanding performance in nutrition program management as manifested by the continued reduction in the prevalence of undernutrition/malnutrition, both among pre-school and school children for six consecutive years.
Maasin City group that participated the awarding ceremony was led by Mayor Maloney Samaco with ABC Federation President Nacional Mercado and city department heads.
It was learned that the national validating team led by NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita T. Flores evaluated last May, this year wherein they randomly selected 5 barangays such as Pinascohan, Laboon, Malapoc Norte, Ibarra and Canturing.
Other local government units that received the NHA include Lal-lo in Cagayan province in Region 2 and the province of Ifugao in the Cordillera Administrative Region in their own categories.
The nutrition champions received trophy and cash incentive in the amount of P1,000,000 each, it was learned.
Other awards were also given to the 1st and 2nd Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award; CROWN awardees, among others. (ajc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
