PALO, Leyte, (PNA) — The municipality of Palo is eyeing the revision of its Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) following typhoon Yolanda and other series of events that led to several changes in the town’s façade.
The typhoon damaged many of the town’s infrastructures and there is also an impending transfer of the provincial capitol and other government offices as offshoot of the calamity, said Palo councillor Wilson S. Uy.
He disclosed that recently the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a seminar on post-disaster typhoon Yolanda CLUP as part of the preparations.
During the seminar, committees formed were made to identify a core problem that needs to be addressed with the help of JICA.
The committee on economics, where Uy is a member, eyes Palo to become a sub-center of the region because of its strategic location. All vehicles coming from Luzon and going to Mindanao and vice versa pass through the municipality.
Other plans include embarking on housing development as the town has a vast available area reaching to some 8,000 hectares and the improvement of public market with Php200 million allotted funds.
Also in the proposal is to establish a bagsakan area as the town also pushed agricultural development and the construction of a circumferential road to make all Palo villages interconnected. (PNA)
