BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar (PIA) – New beginnings are on the horizon for Salcedo as they begin the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) through a visioning workshop on July 28, 2014 at the Farmer’s Training Center (FTC), Eastern Samar State College (ESSU) compound, Salcedo, Eastern Samar.
The CLUP is a document which lays out all sectoral existing conditions, a proposal for the goals, objectives and the general direction of municipality development in ten years’ time.
Some 23 stakeholders attended the workshop led by the Core Planning team from Municipal Planning Development and Coordination Office (MPDCO).
Town mayor Melchor L. Mergal said the purpose of the workshop is to visualize the current reality of Salcedo and its preferred reality for ten years after.
According to municipal planning development and coordination officer Isabel Abella, the CLUP is very important especially to the decision makers and for the stakeholders.
It’s valuable for them to know the uses of their land. Through this process, they will be guided where to invest resources, where to build more structures and where to focus their development efforts.
“Ultimately, we will identify and determine these interrelationships for the future development of Salcedo” Abella added.
One of the participants, Uzhmar Padit, Emergency Relief Coordinator/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO), said that the process consisted of interactive small groups which evaluated six essential elements including people as individuals, people as a community, local community, natural environment, built environment and local institutions.
He further said the vision will guide the future goals and objectives for municipal development and planning.
The CLUP slogan is “Pagpahimutang han dalan ngadto hin maupay nga kinabuhi”. (AJC/SDC/PIA8-Eastern Samar)
