JAVIER, Leyte, March 21 (PNA) – The local government here kicked off on Friday the distribution of Php 95.5 million emergency shelter assistance (ESA) to residents of nine villages.
Javier Leyte Mayor Leonardo M. Javier, Jr. and staff from the municipal social welfare and development office (MSWDO) led the first ESA pay-out for families whose houses were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
Households with partially damaged houses got Php 10,000 while those with totally damaged houses received Php 30,000. This fourth class town has 5,732 affected families.
Benefiting the ESA distribution are residents from the villages of Binulho, Laray, Manarug, Magsaysay, and Sta. Cruz Rizal, Naliwatan, Picas Norte, and Casulongan.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Office has allotted PHP95.5 million cash assistance to the town. The distribution will continue until all 5,732 from the 28 villages of Javier beneficiaries will be served.
Javier, in his message, encouraged the people to save. “Whatever or how much do you earn in a day, you should save half of it to prepare for any eventualities in the future.”
He also urged the beneficiaries that if they’re done fixing their house, they should use ESA for their livelihood. (PNA)
