CATBALOGAN CITY-Interior Secretary Ma Roxas expressed his irritation during a media interview here on Thursday when asked if his visit to Samar was part of his reported plans on 2016.

Roxas was in this city to distribute 23 units of police jeepneys to 23 towns of Samar held at the provincial gym. The activity was attended by the mayors and their respective police chiefs. “Kayo sa media nilalagyan niyo ng kulay at bahid pulitika (ang ginagawa ko),” the visibly irked Roxas said.

He insisted that his visit to Samar and other parts of the country was part of his job “Di po ba DILG ako. I am only doing my job that is what I am here, “he said.

In his speech, Sec. Roxas reminded his audience, composed of local and police officials that he was among the first national leaders to respond when the region was devastated by supertyphoon “Yolanda” and by “Ruby”, a major typhoon.

Roxas stressed that despite of perception that his visits have something to do with his presidential ambitions, he would still continue his visits to different parts of the country.

He admonished the media that instead of giving meaning and colors his provincial visits, they should take it as part of his obligations as the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

“Sa palagay ko di naman fair na lalagyan ninyo ng malisya o intriga ang pagpunta ko dito,” Roxas said.
Roxas is said to be the presumptive presidential standard bearer of the ruling Liberal Party. Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, in a separate interview, appeared to support Roxas view.

“Elections are still far. I think he is just doing his job, “Tan said. Tan belongs to the NUP (National Unity Party) which is part of the coalition with the administration party.

Roxas continues to directly answer questions from the media on his 2016 political plans though he already hinted on his readiness for the presidency.

During the interview, he confirmed that he indeed met with Sen. Grace Poe where he purportedly offered her as his vice president. He said the meeting happened at shangrila hotel where he was on his way to comfort room. Poe was on her way out from the comfort room. “Magkilala naman kami so nagkaroon ng chika chika, ” Roxas said.

He declined to provide more details.
