TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) – The Provincial Executive and Working Committees for the 70th Leyte Gulf Landings Anniversary Celebration chaired by Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla converged recently at the Governor’s Hall, Provincial Capitol, this city.

This is part of the preparations for the coming Leyte Landing celebrations on October 20, 2014.

Topics discussed during the meeting were focused on the various activities lined up for the month-long celebration in October.

The activities include the launching of the Search for the Oldest Living Veterans of Eastern Visayas; formal opening of Agri-Aqua, Trade and Food Fair; Sentimental Journey for Guiuan Eastern Samar; Tree Planting for Peace in Hill 522 in Palo, Hill 120 in Dulag and Catmon Hills in Tolosa and Dulag Leyte; Reenactment of the Leyte Gulf Landings, the commemorative programs, Japanese Veterans Memorial Ceremonies, among others.

Aside from the activities, the proposed rehabilitation of Mac Arthur Shrine, the place where General Douglas Macarthur landed 70 years ago was also discussed during the meeting.

Along this development, a total of P60 million has been submitted to the national government for funding on the rehabilitation of the MacArthur Shrine.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “LEYTE 1944, LEYTE 2014, Yesterday’s Heroes, Today’s Inspiration in the Road to Recovery.” (PIA-8)
