CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, October 17 (PIA) – Regional Director Luisa Butista-Yu of the Department of Education and Calbayog City Mayor Ronald Aquino led on Tuesday the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Regional Science High School for Arts & Design in Barangay Gadgaran, Calbayog City.
City and DepEd officials witnessed the simple ceremonies with the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the city government and DepEd.
The two officials, led the time capsule in a three hectare lot donated by the city government.
Aside from the High School complex, a dormitory building will also be constructed for the students as the officials expect that students from different parts of the region will be going to Calbayog City to enroll.
“The school will secure our place in the region as the center of culture and arts. We should be thankful to some Calbayognons who have brought honor to the city,” said Aquino.
Yu, on the other hand, thanked Mayor Aquino for his offer to donate the lot.
As the Senior High is expected to run next school year, DepEd officials are all agog to pursue construction of the classrooms, workshops, laboratories and other facilities to be used.
In related news, some 1,500 Senior High School advocates, supporters and teachers from all over Samar province converged at the Samar State University Gym to express support in the implementation of the Senior High School come school year 2016-2017. (ldl/nbq/PIA 8-Samar)
